The opening ceremony for the "Claude Monet: The Spirit of Place" exhibition was held on 3 May 2016 at Hong Kong Heritage Museum.

Officiating guests at the ceremony were (from right) Mr Bruno Girveau, curator of the exhibition; Ms Michelle Li, JP, Director of Leisure and Cultural Services; Mr Cheung Chung Kiu; Mrs Cecilia Cheung; Mr Eric Berti, Consul General of France in Hong Kong and Macao; Mrs Carrie Lam, GBS, JP, Chief Secretary for Administration; Dr Andrew S. Yuen, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Le French May; Mr Leong Cheung, Executive Director of Charities and Community at The Hong Kong Jockey Club; Ms Karena Lam; and Ms Fione Lo, Museum Director of Hong Kong Heritage Museum.

 
 
Opening Ceremony for the

Mr Bruno Girveau, curator of the exhibition, introduces Monet's famous paintings of water lilies to Mrs Carrie Lam, Chief Secretary for Administration.

On the opening day, guests and participants enjoyed various education programmes, which provided a comprehensive view of Monet's life and his works of art.

Guests and MuseKids paint freely in the "360° Fun Drawing Pavilion".

 
 
Sand painting demonstration

Sand artist Hoi Chiu demonstrates how to narrate the stories and artworks of Monet using sand.

 
 
Role-playing

Playing the roles of Claude Monet and Suzanne, the drama instructors guide the MuseKids through the education gallery of the exhibition.

 
 
Painting

Children and their parents set up their easels in the education gallery, and realise the images in their minds through painting.
