Chao Shao-an Student Exhibition Series IV

Professor Chao Shao-an (1905 – 1998), one of the most renowned painters of the Lingnan School, made a hugely important contribution to art education when he established the Lingnan Art Studio in Guangzhou and later in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Heritage Museum is organising this Student Exhibition Series to study the ways in which features of the Lingnan School have been carried on in its students' works and how innovations have been introduced by the individual artists.

Born in Xinyi, Guangdong, in 1927, Lee Yue-hong has worked as an educator for over 60 years. He studied painting under Professor Chao Shao-an at the Lingnan Art Studio from 1951 and first presented his paintings in the mid-1950s. Since then, his works have been widely exhibited in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, the mainland and overseas. Besides devoting his efforts to art education in Hong Kong and Macau, Lee has also spent time exhibiting works and teaching in the province of Liaoning with the aim of promoting the Lingnan School in northern China. Featuring highlights from his painting series "Huangshan Landscapes"and "A Hundred Birds", this exhibition is a tribute to the deft creative strokes Lee has always demonstrated in depicting natural landscapes, birds and flowers.
