A Salute to Masters Programme Series
Professor Chao Shao-an (1905–1998) is one of the most renowned painters of the Lingnan School. During his early years, Chao mastered his art under the tutelage of Gao Qifeng (1889–1933), founder of the Tianfeng Pavilion art studio. Having inherited the spirit of creativity of the Lingnan School, he pursued his art with a fervent zeal. At the same time, his keen observation of and fascination with the wonders of nature enabled him to express his personal feelings through his works. A devoted teacher, Chao not only nurtured generations of students, he also lectured and exhibited widely, both at home and abroad, with the aim of promoting the art of the Lingnan School.
Presenting a selection of representative works by the Lingnan master found in the museum's collection, including a number of new items acquired in recent years, this exhibition offers the public an excellent opportunity to gain a fuller insight into the achievements of this great painter and his contribution to the world of art.
