The Quilt Project Exhibition
Function Place,
Hong Kong Heritage Museum 11 January 2003 - 10 February 2003
A Partnership Project of the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, the Art Promotion Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and Art for All
Two workshops on fabric craft were set up in Tsing Yi and Tseung Kwan O by "Art For all", an organization committed to encouraging people from all walks of life to approach art from different perspectives. These workshops are specially designed for housewives who have an interest in sewing or needlework but have very little exposure to works of art. Most of them tend to believe that they can only function as a housewife in their home environment. However, remarkable creativity and amazing imagination capacity were witnessed as drafts and outlines were prepared. The women participants meet weekly for twelve sessions and they will be presenting their own piece of fabric craft in the exhibition at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum. Every piece of craft carries its own story, with the themes ranging from daily routines in the households, the family structure, to the dreams or beautiful scenery in the eyes of these women artists.
