Thematic Exhibition - A Study of Chinese Paintings
Chao Shao-an Gallery,
Hong Kong Heritage Museum 01 September 2004 - 20 July 2005
An enthusiastic proponent of flower-and-bird paintings, Professor Chao Shao-an (1905-1998) gained an early and blossoming reputation in art circles in the 1930s. In A Study of Chinese Paintings, compiled from a series of articles he wrote for the Lighthouse Magazine from 1963 to the 1970, Professor Chao discusses 65 botanical subjects and the methods he applied to paint them. Featuring a selection of writings and examples drawn from this book that describes Professor Chao¢s personal experiences, feelings and painting methodology, this exhibition provides a valuable source of reference for the study of this master of the Lingnan School of Chinese painting.
To prepare for the "Essence of Purity - Exhibition to Commemorate the 100th Birthday of Chao Shao-an", Chao Shao-an Gallery will be temporarily closed from 20 July to 27 August 2005. Exhibit Highlights
