Chao Shao-an Gallery and Thematic Gallery (5),
Hong Kong Heritage Museum 28 August 2005 - 02 January 2006
2005 marks what would have been the 100th birthday of master painter Chao Shao-an (1905-1998). To commemorate the occasion, the Hong Kong Heritage Museum and the Guangzhou Museum of Art have joined hands for the very first time to present a retrospective exhibition that looks back on Professor Chao's achievements and his contribution to the world of art. On display are close to 100 of his works as well as relevant cultural relics currently in the collections of the two museums. The exhibited works, which date from the 1930s to the 1990s, feature a rich variety of subject matters, including flower and birds, grasses and insects, landscapes as well as feathers and animals. Also showcased are representative paintings, such as Banana Trees, Tiger, White Peacock and Moonlight Over the Pond collected by the Heritage Museum, together with Pine Tree and Sunflower in the possession of the Guangzhou Museum of Art. Other exhibits include private collections of Chao's works, photographs taken during Chao's lifetime, original poetry manuscripts and sketches.
