In 2024, the Hong Kong Heritage Museum presented the Hong Kong section of the 9th edition of the Hong Kong-Macao Visual Art Biennale, with the theme “HK SnapshotsCity Walks”. Four groups of young Hong Kong artists were invited to participate in the exhibition: fourth-generation Lingnan School artist Rebecca Lo, printing studio ditto ditto, young fashion designers from the Hong Kong Cheongsam Association, and exhibition designers Key-Point Productions. Through sections showcasing porcelain painting, letterpress printing, fashion design, and exhibition installations, the exhibition featured unique facets of Hong Kong’s cityscape and cultural personality to Mainland audience.

The biennale concluded with great success in September 2025 after travelling to five cities in the Mainland, and the Hong Kong section has now returned to Hong Kong. This exhibition at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum aims to prompt those of us who call this city home, to refresh our perceptions of Hong Kong, explore our city’s scenic spots, historical sites and lively neighbourhoods, immerse ourselves in the stories behind its architecture, re-experience its unique culinary flavours, and rediscover its deeply embedded cultural roots. In this exhibition, supplementary information has been added to introduce Hong Kong’s intangible cultural heritage (ICH) and show the commitment of its young artists to preserving, transmitting, and innovatively interpreting the city’s ICH and its traditional craft skills. By appreciating these works in the exhibition, visitors will also be prompted to reflect on the meaning and significance of Hong Kong’s traditional craftsmanship and intangible cultural heritage in the contemporary context.
