Jin Yong - Hong Kong’s Cultural Legend
This documentary, produced to commemorate the centennial of Dr. Louis Cha (Jin Yong)’s birth, is jointly presented by the Jiaxing News Media Center and the Haining Municipal Government. It is a joint production by the Jiaxing News Media Center and the Film, Drama and Documentary Programming Center of China Media Group. It has been successively selected for funding by the Zhejiang Culture and Arts Development Fund and supported by the Jiaxing Cultural Masterpieces Project.
Structured around the passage of time, this documentary traces the pivotal stages of Jin Yong’s life – his birth, upbringing, education, writing career, newspaper publishing, and his involvement in Hong Kong’s return to the motherland. Across three episodes, it tells the story of his youth—experiencing war and leaving home to study; his early adulthood—moving to Hong Kong from scratch to write martial arts novels, run a newspaper, and work to safeguard traditional culture; and his middle age—devoting himself to the cause of national reunification, offering advice for Hong Kong’s return, promoting traditional culture, and caring for compatriots in his homeland.
