“The King of Comic Roles” – Leung Sing Por

Leung Sing Por was born in Singapore. In 1939, he was invited by Ma Sze Tsang to join the Tai Ping Opera Troupe in Hong Kong. In the 1950s, he switched to performing the comic role - a change that brought him widespread acclaim among audiences. He also participated in performances with renowned Cantonese opera troupes such as Sin Fung Ming, Chor Fung Ming and Tai Lung Fung. From the Cantonese opera stage to the silver screen and television, whether in leading or supporting roles, Leung Sing Por brough to life numerous classic characters with his profound Cantonese opera skills and unique sense of humour. Through the exhibition featuring selected Cantonese opera collections of the Museum, visitors can embark on a captivating journey retracing Leung’s remarkable career transition from the Cantonese opera stage to his influential roles in film and television.
