The exact year of Che Kung Temple’s construction is unknown, but the earliest recorded renovation can be traced back to 1890. According to legend, Che Kung, a Southern Song general venerated for his success in quelling uprisings, could also drive away plagues. To curb the spread of epidemics, the villagers of Sha Tin built a Che Kung Temple, which has been designated as a Grade 2 historic building. To accommodate more worshippers, a new temple was built in front of the original temple in 1994. Every year, especially on the 2nd and 3rd days of the first lunar month, the temple attracts many worshippers seeking blessings from Che Kung.
